What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.

It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.

If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

How does it work?

Our body energy is called Qi or Chi in Traditional Chinese Medecine and generates electricity.

Our nervous system communicates using electric signals (amongst other messengers).

Additionally, there is also electricity being generated inside & outside the cells. Like any electrical conductor, our body generates a magnetic field. This magnetic field is called the biomagnetic field.

It is believed that illness starts outside the body, within the biomagnetic field.

If the biomagnetic field is unbalanced, it leads to symptoms in the body. We are not just talking microbes here but unpleasant experiences too. After all, we cannot deny that mental health disorders also have a bodily manifestation!

This biomagnetic field emits a vibration (scientists have measured this, each body organ has its vibration).

A Reiki Practitioner has been attuned to Reiki Healing. Their hands have their vibration. If an organ is not vibrating within its healthy range (due to unbalance), the Reiki Practitioner can pick up on those vibrations and send healing for the body to readjust, rebalance, & heal itself.

Of course, it has its limits, we cannot fully cure diseases with Reiki Healing, but we can improve how the body deals with the disease and encourage healing.

There was a time when only energy, healing & plants were available to heal us.

Then medicine & technology came along, saving millions of lives.

But we abandoned the way of healing taught by our elders & medicine also has its limitation.

Reiki Healing is never about replacing medicine, just like medicine is not the only solution to illness. There is incredible power in uniting the two.

While medicine targets the illness, the Reiki healing supports the body & mind to promote healing, often allowing the client to cope better with the treatment.

We know the effect of stress on the body and simply relaxing the mind can have a great impact on the recovery from illnesses.

If your organs are on the right frequency (vibration), they will cope better with side effects, stress, anxiety due to an illness.

This is why Reiki is often used in cancer treatment along with harsh but ever so necessary chemotherapy radiotherapy, for example.

What does it feel like?

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you.
